As you are probably aware, the area has had some significant rainfall this week which has saturated the trails at Purgatory Creek.  The parks department informed us this morning that they will be closing all trail access to the public for the foreseeable future.  They will reassess it again next week to see if it is in better condition but there is more rain on the way.  Because of this closure, we have no choice but to cancel this year's event.  We are angry, frustrated, and saddened by this closure, but it is completely out of our hands.  The parks department is citing safety and integrity issues for the course.  While we as long-time trail runners know and expect, this is always an issue and we come prepared to deal with it.  Unfortunately, they don't see it from our point of view and are forcing us to cancel.  We are deeply sorry and hope that you will be understanding.  Shirts, medals, toilets, beer, water, food, course marking, permits, etc. have all been prepared and ready to go.  We just aren't allowed to move forward.

We are going to set up at the trailhead in the morning from 6:30 until 9 am to handle packets for anyone who wants to come out and pick them up.  This will include your bib, shirt, finisher medal, and a ticket for a beer at Middleton Brewery.   We want to thank them for their sponsorship.  Please go by their brewery and check them out this weekend if you can.  They will not be serving at the trailhead.  Also realize that you will not be able to run the trails as they are going to be barricaded.

If you don't want to come in the morning, we will take all materials to Two Rivers Running in New Braunfels where you can pick up your swag.  The swag will be available until next Thursday.  We need to set a deadline so as not to tie up their floor space for too long.

Lastly, we are looking to try and reschedule a trail run but we have made the tough decision that it will not be at Purgatory.  We've been dealing with increasing resistance on their part for the last several years to have this race.  Every year has gotten more restrictive with weather conditions.  It is not fair to you or us to plan an event just to have it canceled.  We have some ideas and will keep you informed as soon as we have the details ironed out.  Because of the expenses having been made for this race, we are unable to offer any kind of refund but will offer something for a future event.

We do thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you on the trails again.

About

The 10 mile course leads runners through a rather porous section of the Edwards Aquifer. Juniper groves, meadows, ephemeral wetlands, and oak mottes co-exist in Purgatory Creek Greenspace.  More experienced trail runners will enjoy some difficult technical sections of trail during the race while still runnable.

We strive to be a "sustainable" race operation, this means we are a cupless race.  We have a water stop on the 10 mi at the turnaround but each runner will need to carry a bottle on the course with them.  Lets all up our game and keep trash out of our landfills.

The 5K course is a rigorous course with a medium technical rating and is the perfect introduction into trail running. You must bring your own water & water bottle to run with.

Walkers and hikers are encouraged and welcome to participate in the 5K and the 10 mile race.

Runners and walkers will receive a t-shirt.  Be advised, the tshirts are unisex sizing and first come first serve. Once inventory is out...there are no more shirts.

Shirts will be first come(registered), first serve.

Due to the parks rules, there is always a possibility that they may cancel this event due to weather conditions.  We will attempt to work with them but it is entirely beyond our control.  If this does happen, we will attempt to reschedule if possible.  We will attempt to contact you by email and will post to the event page if this happens.

No dogs allowed.   No refunds for any reason.
